Special Characters

Search Using Special Characters

GW’s traditional typography uses six different scripts. There is no font family containing all the required characters, so we use six different font families. Only the Latin fonts contain all the characters of GW’s Latin character repertoire. An empty white square □ in Greek, Hebrew, Early Cyrillic and Glagolitic texts indicates that a character cannot be displayed. We promise to remedy this.

How to Activate the Input for Special Characters

Before you can input special characters in the search field, you have to activate their display with the checkbox Sonderzeichen , ‘special characters’. To display the characters, click into the checkboxes to choose the script, e.g. Griechisch, ‘Greek’. — The writing system for Alt-Kyrillisch, ‘Early Cyrillic’, is still in preparation.

How to Copy a Character into the Search Field

Move the cursor within the search field to the position where it is to be inserted and click once. Move the cursor to the character in the table and click once.

Normalization of Spaces and Dashes

GW’s typography uses seven different dashes and twelve different spaces. We do not assume that everyone knows how to use them. Thus, all dashes in the search string are converted into the simple dash of the keyboard (U+002D) and all spaces into the simple space (U+0020). Consequently, a search for special dashes or spaces is impossible.
