This index records all work catalogues contained in the database (work catalogue = works by one author or group of anonymous writings) and is at the same time GW’s author names authority file. In addition, it contains links from name variants to the main entries.

The register contains

• all known work catalogues,
• links from name variants taken from the GW volumes 1–10 to the main entries,
• links from name variants taken from the ‘Personennamendatei (PND) der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek’ (German Personal Name Authority File) to the main entries. (For authors’ names beginning with the letter ‘A’ only.)

The index is sorted alphabetically; texts are transcribed according to the ‘Prussian Instructions’ for this purpose.

• First sort criterion: bold type entry word from the authors’ names or short title of the anonymous writing
• Other sort criteria: spaced entry words from the authors’ names or short title of the anonymous writing
